AGI Update

AGI Update: April 2, 2008

Hi everyone. Here are the latest updates for this year’s event:

Henry Grimmett:
Henry will be bringing Mike Shelbo (http://www.shelboglassart.com) along as his assistant for his color working class.

Alex V:
Our good friend Alex from Michigan, better known as “Hasslenuts” to those of you on the forum, will be conducting demonstrations on the basics of prep work for practical use, such as:

  • Stick stacks.
  • Rod encasements.
  • Reversals.
  • Inside-out line tube.
  • Multi section windows / various configurations.
  • Sleeving tubes with 50mm x 5mm.

Doni Hatz:
Doni will be returning this year to demo some scientific techniques, including a klein bottle, and some other cool scientific techniques!

Mike Mangiafico:
In a series of short semi formal demonstrations, Mike Mangiafico (a.k.a. “Fig”) will be working Effetre soft glass into various forms from marbles and beads (on and off the mandrel) to sculptural insects. Mike will also be happy to share any tutorials and life insights to anyone interested.

Ask the Tax Man
For those of you who have any tax or business questions, we will have an impromptu discussion / Q&A session with my accountant and good friend, John Brosnahan (CPA). This will be an “off the cuff” type of thing and he will address individual questions, needs, and concerns. I know not everyone will need this “class”, but it should be very valuable for those who do. It will take place around the camp fire or in the Bill Rasmussen Lounge, depending on the weather and / or how many people will participate.

Galaxy Marbles:
If anyone is interested in learning some tricks on how to make galaxy marbles, feel free to hit me up for a quick lesson. The techniques will be too hard to show the entire crowd at once, so I’ll be happy to do several demos throughout the week for small crowds of 8 to 10 people.

New Tools:
Each year at AGI we like to feature new tools on the market, and this year the following tools will be available for use, along with information on where to purchase them.
*If anyone has a new tool they would like to feature at AGI, please contact me*

-Michael’s tube and rod cutters.
-The "Top Hat" mechanical foot pedal.
-Vin Pin

If anyone is interested in attending AGI 2008, please call Elaine at (724) 791-2100 to make your reservations… there are still tickets available!

*Note: There are 2 or 3 more classes I am working on, but I have not hammered out all of the details at this point, so stay tuned for more!
